Les E. Pelfrey, DVM

Dr. Les E. Pelfrey Dr. Les Pelfrey is a general practitioner and the owner of Stanley Veterinary Clinic. He has has been caring for pets at the hospital since 2002.

Dr. Pelfrey attended Kansas State University and received his Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and Industry in 1987. He went on to attend Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. Following veterinary school, he completed an internship at Parker Ranch in Hawaii.

Dr. Pelfrey particularly enjoys working on challenging medical cases involving the ears and skin. Surgery and advanced dentistry are also among his professional interests. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association and the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association.

Married to Amy, Dr. Pelfrey is the proud father of four children, Paige, Adam, Abby and Brooke. The family also includes a Golden Retreiver named Winston, a cat named Usher, and 25 Angus cows. When he's not busy caring for pets at the hospital, Dr. Pelfrey enjoys a number of outdoor activities and spending time with his family.


Kenneth G. Huggins, DVM

Dr. Kenneth G. Huggins Dr. Kenneth Huggins is the former owner of Stanley Veterinary Clinic. He has cared for pets at the hospital for nearly 40 years and continues to treat patients.

Dr. Huggins attended Kansas State University and majored in Arts and Sciences. He was accepted into Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine before completing his undergraduate degree. He was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1966 and was the recipient of the Small Animal Practitioner award while in school. Dr. Huggins completed internships at Kansas State University and Leawood Animal Hospital while in veterinary school.

He is an active member of numerous of professional organizations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, The International Sled Dog Veterinary Medical Association, the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Huggins has published four research articles on xylazine in Modern Veterinary Practice.

Dr. Huggins and his wife, Carole, are the proud parents of three children and six grandchildren. The family also includes two German Shorthair Pointers named Molly and Tim, and two cats named Stella and Maxine. A member of the Blue Valley Optimist Club and the Presbyterian Church of Stanley, he enjoys hiking, fishing, scuba diving, bicycling and reading in his spare time.


Kathleen M. Claussen, DVM

Dr. Kathleen M. Claussen Associate veterinarian at Stanley Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Kathleen Claussen has cared for pets here since 2001.

Dr. Claussen attended Kansas State University and received her Bachelor's Degree in Animal Sciences and Industry in 1995. She continued her education at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000.

Dr. Claussen is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) , Kansas Veterinary Medical Association (KVMA), and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association (KCVMA). She is the past president of the KCVMA. She also has published articles in the Swine Practitioner's Association Annual Meeting Journal.

In her spare time, Dr. Claussen enjoys reading, baking, and traveling with her husband, Verne.


Matthew G. Powers, DVM

Dr. Matthew Powers Dr. Matthew Powers is a general practitioner who joined the veterinary staff at Stanley Veterinary Clinic in 2010.

Dr. Powers attended Kansas State University and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and Industry in 2005. He attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2009. While attending veterinary school, Dr. Powers received two prestigious awards: the Dr. Richard and Pam DeBowers Professional Leadership Award and the Dr. W.F. and H.R. Award for Proficiency in Small Animal Surgery. He also acted as the student/faculty affairs committee advisor. He was a research assistant to Greg Grauer, DVM, MS, DACVIM (IM) and presented a lecture on NSAIDs and kidney disease at the 69th Annual Kansas Veterinary Medicine Alumni Conference.

After graduation, Dr. Powers and his wife decided to move to North Carolina where he was part of a small animal practice for a year and a half. They then decided to move back to Overland Park to be near family. Dr. Powers was excited to find there was an open position at Stanley Veterinary Clinic where he had previously been a veterinary assistant for several years.

He has a special professional interest in veterinary surgery, and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

He is married to Lindsey, a registered nurse, and they have a son named Parker and a daughter named Paxton. They share their home with two dogs and two cats: a Lab mix named Cooper, a Terrier mix named Memphis, a domestic longhaired cat named Maddux and a domestic shorthaired cat named Calvin.

Dr. Powers is active in his community, currently serving as a deacon at Southminster Presbyterian Church. When not at the Clinic, Dr. Powers can be found playing sports, including racquetball, softball and walleyball. He also loves hiking, and spends time on gardening and woodworking projects.



Allen Baldridge, DVM

Dr. Allen Baldridge is a general practitioner who joined the veterinary staff at Stanley Veterinary Clinic in 2012.

Dr. Baldridge attended Kansas State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and Industry in 2003. While an undergrad Dr. Baldridge was a Phi Kappa Phi Scholastic Award recipient. He also was twice a member of the national champion poultry judging team and the individual national champion in the fall of 2002. He attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2007. He has a special professional interest in veterinary surgery, and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Kansas Veterinary Medical Association.

He is married to Dr. Sarah Baldridge, and they have a little girl together, Juliana. They live on a 7 acre farm with a flock of laying chickens and a herd of fainting goats. They share their home with two heartworm-survivor dogs: a mastiff mix named Tucker, and an Australian retriever mix named Eddy. Their landlords are two domestic shorthaired cats named Milo and Espn.

Dr. Baldridge is currently serving as the President for the Miami County 4-H Foundation. When not at the Clinic, Dr. Baldridge can be found out at the lake camping, fishing, hunting or hiking. He also loves K-State sports and is usually wearing purple – especially on game day!


Bryan Kerling, DVM

Dr. Bryan Kerling is a general practitioner who joined the veterinary staff at Stanley Veterinary Clinic in 2014.

Dr. Kerling received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2009. Prior to attending Kansas State, Dr. Kerling received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Iowa State University in 2005.

Dr. Kerling is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Associtation. He has been practicing companion animal medicine in the Kansas City area since 2009. Dr. Kerling especially enjoys working with large and giant breed dogs.

Dr. Kerling has been married to his wife Beth since 2007. They have twin children, Charlotte and Quincy. They also have two dogs: Lily a 60lb mixed breed and Arugula, a Great Dane. In his free time, Dr. Kerling enjoys spending time with his family as well as numerous home improvement projects.


Jennifer Bucher, DVM

Dr. Jennifer L. Bucher worked at Stanley Veterinary Clinic in 2004 as an associate veterinarian. She enjoyed practicing there for five years prior to embarking on a new adventure in Austin, Texas, where she moved for her husband, Jason's, job change. While in Austin, Dr. Bucher worked weekends at a mixed animal practice, as well as at various clinics as a relief veterinarian. She happily returned to Stanley in 2014, after having moved back to the Overland Park area. She credits her experiences in many work places for her increased appreciation of the quality of medicine practiced at Stanley, as well as the caring environment it offers. 

Dr. Bucher experienced an intense three years of undergrad, participating as a member of the Women's Cross country and track and field teams and completing all requirements for application to the veterinary school. One of her most memorable accomplishments, was being a member of the 1998 Women's Big 12 Cross Country Champions. She was accepted into veterinary medicine prior to completion of her undergrad degree, however, obtained her B.S. in Veterinary Medicine and graduated Cum Laude while in veterinary school. She was also in the Phi Zeta honorary.

Dr. Bucher has enjoyed practicing veterinary medicine since 2003 and is especially interested in cardiology, behavior, dermatology, and endocrinology. She is married to Jason and keeps very busy with her four children; Nora, Reese, Landon, and Molly. Her furry children include Oscar and Izzy (Siamese crosses) and Ollie (Australian Shepherd Mix). She enjoys staying active with outdoor activities and running in her free time. She has even participated in two marathons, qualifying for the Boston Marathon in each.
